Several Chaloner Middle School students competed this past Monday, March 13th at the VA Kidwind Regional Competition at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. This competition encourages renewable energy education where the Wind Team students can build, showcase, and test turbines for the amount of energy their turbine generates and the Solar Team constructs a real-world application device that runs on solar energy. Our middle school solar and wind teams both won first place in the VA regional competition. They will now compete in the state competition on April 8 in Harrisonburg, Va.

Solar Team- The Solar Superstars - Linley Godsey, Lanie Bailey, Josiah Ausby, Carlos Nery and Briar Copeland

They went to San Antonio, Texas and are coming home with the national trophy. Congratulations to our Chaloner Middle School Wind Breaker team on winning the National Kid Wind Challenge - Middle School Division.
The students had to build an actual wind turbine that generates electricity. “They did amazing! Their solar challenge, hydro challenge, and presentation is really what helped them win the competition. They have worked so hard and we are incredibly proud of them,” Jenny Shives, AIG coordinator.
