Students helping students: Members of the RRHS Science National Honor Society created science fair-type projects to share with 4th and 5th graders at our RRGSD elementary schools this week to get students interested and excited about science. Next week they will be at Manning to share the projects with the same age group. This was a student led project and we are very proud of the work they’ve done. #KidsAreOurCustomers

Dr. Butler speaking to RRGSD leaders today about opening a CTE Center in Roanoke Rapids. Our students need vocational training. If we can train them, they stay here. It’s a win/win. It’s going to take a community effort. We will make this happen. #vocationaleducation #CTE #careertraining

Thank you to RRHS SkillsUSA, Mrs. Whitehead’s class, RRHS DECA, DrugCo Express, RRHS Choir and Drama Club, WestRock, Arthur & Nicholson DDS, and RRHS Band for their donations of money and hygiene items to the RRHS Community Outreach Program. Because of these wonderful organizations and students, we were able to distribute over 100 hygiene bags to RRGSD students. Each bag contains soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and chapstick. #KidsAreOurCustomers
Thanks to Halifax Sheriff Wes Tripp, Chief Deputy Scott Hall, deputies, and the community for giving RRGSD students more than $10,000 in toys today. The toys were donated to the Sheriff's Toy Drive which helps hundreds of needy children each year.

RRGSD Media Statement: RRGSD received information of a possible safety concern Tuesday evening at Chaloner Middle School. Our principals, school resource officer, and administration performed a threat assessment and immediately turned the matter over to the Roanoke Rapids Police. In an effort to remain transparent, RRGSD alerted parents Tuesday evening by both social media and through the district’s phone and text alert system and requested additional law enforcement remain on campus during classes on Wednesday.
“I want to ensure our entire school community that this matter is being handled in accordance with district policies and procedures,” said Dain Butler, Superintendent. “I also want to applaud our staff for their immediate and proactive response.”
A preliminary investigation by RRPD indicates there is no immediate threat to Chaloner Middle School’s students and faculty at this time. Further information regarding the investigation will be released by RRPD at their discretion.
Additional law enforcement roamed the campus on Wednesday.
Safety and security of our students and staff remain a top priority. School officials take all threats seriously and we appreciate when students, parents, and the community report their concerns through our mobile app and website “report it” feature.
