Our school community is saddened to learn of the death of former RRGSD Trustee Jane Deese.  Ms. Deese dedicated nearly 60 years of her life to serving children in our community as a teacher.  In 2017, she was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest honor the state can give for those with a proven record of service. She served 28 years on the Roanoke Rapids Board of Education.  Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.  

Reminder. RRGSD will be participating in the statewide tornado drill Wednesday morning at 9:30.

Thanks to Brent Carpenter, 2000 RRHS graduate, for sharing his message of life pathways, determination, and motivation. He encouraged RRECHS scholars to always give their best no matter what path life gives you. #KidsAreOurCustomers

Students helping students: Members of the RRHS Science National Honor Society created science fair-type projects to share with 4th and 5th graders at our RRGSD elementary schools this week to get students interested and excited about science. Next week they will be at Manning to share the projects with the same age group. This was a student led project and we are very proud of the work they’ve done. #KidsAreOurCustomers

As part of Black History Month our RRHS art students are studying The Great Migration and The Harlem Renaissance. Students have been creating original works in the style Harlem Renaissance artists and creating tributes to that era. Beautiful work! #KidsAreOurCustomers #BlackHistoryMonth #Art

Roanoke Rapids Early College/Roanoke Rapids High School Varsity and JV Science Olympiad teams competed at a regional competition in Kinston on Saturday, Varsity took 7th place as a team and JV took 2nd place. Aldrin Mosqueda, Evan King, and Tyler Campbell will be competing at the State competition on April 25th. #KidsAreOurCustomers #ScienceOlympiad

Thanks to WPTM for allowing Dr. Butler and Ms. Thompson to be on Good Morning Lake Country to discuss our plans to open a CTE/Vocational Center across from Roanoke Rapids High School in the former maintenance shop to offer numerous vocational courses. Thank you to RRHS SkillsUSA, Mrs. Whitehead’s class, RRHS DECA, DrugCo Express, RRHS Choir and Drama Club, WestRock, Arthur & Nicholson DDS, and RRHS Band for their donations of money and hygiene items to the RRHS Community Outreach Program. Because of these wonderful organizations and students, we were able to distribute over 100 hygiene bags to RRGSD students. Each bag contains soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and chapstick. #KidsAreOurCustomers
