It’s common for high school seniors to visit colleges this time of year to explore their options, but this year Roanoke Rapids High School is making it easier by brining colleges to the high school. North Carolina Wesleyan, Chowan, and Campbell University have all set up shop on campus this month in an effort to recruit students. So far 16 seniors have been accepted to Chowan and offered more than $370,000 in academic scholarships. Both Campbell and North Carolina Wesleyan accepted a total of 18 seniors with more $700,00 offered in academic scholarships.
“This is a win-win for our students. These seniors have worked hard over their high school career and now they get the instant reward of knowing they’ve been accepted to the college of their choice,. It’s exciting for them and us,” said Jeff White, Principal.
Additional North Carolina universities including Elizabeth City State and North Carolina Central are scheduled to come later this month. Representatives from Halifax Community College are also scheduled to talk to students about careers and the training programs they offer locally.
“As the school counseling team, it is our goal to have at least two colleges per month visit the RRHS campus. Our team is also working towards having career professionals talk with students regarding local and regional job opportunities,” said Jessica Elias, Senior Counselor.
“We want to give all of our students every opportunity to see what options they have and help them plan for their future.”
