Two Roanoke Rapids Graded School District seniors received $10,000 each from the State Employees Credit Union as part of the People Helping People scholarship program. This year’s recipients are RRHS Senior, Clare Cipriano and RR Early College Senior, Jayla Whitaker.
SECU Foundation established the People Helping People four-year scholarship program to help North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the 115 North Carolina Districts receive a minimum of one scholarship valued at $10,000 payable at $1,250 for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.
Whitaker plans to attend East Carolina University in the fall and major in psychology. Cipriano plans to attend NC State University and major in education.
The awards are based on scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement.
