Happy First Day! Let's see those first day of school photos. #RRGSDFirstDay
RRGSD Families:  In the 100 years we've been a district, we've never started school like we will this year.  Please remember the first two weeks are largely intended as an orientation period, in part to ensure that students have what they need to learn online. Our schools will begin full academic instruction as soon as it is feasible to do so. Teachers will also be flexible with assignments and grading for students who do not yet have technology access. Let's vow to be patient with one another and work together over these next few weeks to create a positive experience for our RRGSD students. Together, we can do this!  #KidsAreOurCustomers
Immunization Reminder: Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 7th Grade students are required to have updated immunizations prior to starting school on August 17th even though we are beginning the year virtually. Additionally, rising Seniors are now required to have the meningococcal (Menactra) vaccine. September 15th is the deadline to submit your child’s records to their respective school nurse. This is especially important because when we do return to in-person instruction, they will not be allowed to return without the proper documentation. Appointments may be made with the Halifax County Health Department or your child's pediatrician. #KidsAreOurCustomer #BackToSchool

Your feedback matters! Over the last week we’ve received a lot of feedback in different ways from parents, students, and other stakeholders. We don’t want any feedback to get lost in the multiplication of social media comments and email threads. To ensure we can streamline and review all feedback, we’ve added a form to our website. Please include your contact information in the event further discussion is warranted. Click here for the link:

Pre-K Update 7/20: We are still taking applications for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents should call or stop by Clara Hearne Monday - Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and noon. If you were in Round 1 of our application process, letters were sent out today regarding acceptance. #KidsAreOurCustomers
Calling all area civic, church, and community volunteers with sewing skills...we have a goal of collecting 5,000 masks for use at our schools. If you are willing to donate, please email us. They will need to be individually packaged student-sized masks for all grades. #KidsAreOurCustomers
Reopening Plan Update 7/15: Our district is greatly limited by the state’s COVID-19 mandates. These include transportation requirements, classroom social distance requirements, and a host of other directives. You can see all of these requirements in the link below.
Every school district in the state is grappling with the same issues as RRGSD. Many of them are choosing 100% virtual.  As you are aware, any scenario in which many people gather together poses a risk for COVID-19 transmission.  We certainly want to offer 100% face-to-face instruction for all PreK through 12th grade students; however, our RRGSD facilities do not have enough space to ensure all students and staff remain six feet apart at one time as mandated.
We were fortunate enough today to have some community partners reach out to us with some facility options that may allow for some face-to-face instruction for our high school students. We will be releasing an additional survey to target 9-12 students to see if they would be interested in such a blended option. We will also send a separate survey to staff to get specific feedback regarding their intentions in light of our plan.
Please know that the only changes we are considering would provide some face-to-face options for our 9-12 students in addition to their virtual learning. Our PreK-Grade 8 students will continue to operate on the plan approved Tuesday night by the Board of Trustees that includes a virtual option for all K-12 students. More information on all of this will be forthcoming.
